The 7-foot-5 Frenchman will soon join the wave of Point Gargantuans

It didn’t surprise me that the 7-foot-5 Victor Wembayama went viral after his preseason showdown against Chet Holmgren and the Oklahoma City Thunder. He’s unlike anything we’ve ever seen on a basketball court. The swooping layup around Chet. The impossible block on Jalen Williams. The free-throw putback. The swiping steal from across the damn court. I mean, legs shouldn’t be able to do this:

But that’s not what most excites me about Wembanyama. When I’ve been watching him in NBA competition at Summer League and this preseason, the most impressive thing I’ve noticed is his playmaking ability.

The more I watch him, the more I’m convinced that Victor Wembanyama – yes, all 7-foot-5 of him – will one day be a point guard in the NBA.
